With the many stitched hearts floating around blogland, I thought it appropriate to make my own version of a Sailor's Valentine to mark forty years of marriage this coming June 16th.

Of course, this one is not made from a variety of shells artfully arranged under glass as a true Sailor Valentine would be.

It's just a heart.

A simple heart stitched with vintage laces, ribbons and beads on a leftover piece of drop cloth material...plus an old key.

Thanks are due to Pam, Charlotte and Rebecca for the inspiration.

This old sewing machine base has been in the garage for a few years.

Actually, the entire cabinet was used in the garden with flowers in the drawers.

The weather took a toll on the old cabinet until we had just the base remaining.

A good cleaning + some spray paint + a top made by the local Amish = end table

Jessica is still enjoying her Christmas decorations.

She received this adorable pink glittered church from a co-worker this year.

She loved it.

So did I.

The glitter thing.

This small spoon is one of a collection that belonged to my beloved Aunt Lucy.

She was a single teacher who collected spoons in her summer travels.

The collection has been packed away for a few years.

I decided that they would be perfect to hang on Jessica's tabletop tree, to be brought out each year to display.

I am thinking that Lucy would approve.

A few years ago, I had my engagement ring reset.

The jeweler mentioned that I could have the original setting made into a pinky ring.

I passed on the option then, but would always notice the sad little setting in my jewelry box.

This year for Christmas, I told the hubs that all I really wanted was a pinky ring made from the setting that he gave me 40 years ago.

I really love it.

Purely sentimental.

Memories are attached to that simple band of gold.

The cookies are almost gone, the rubbish (our word for candy) has been devoured by the big kids, the rich foods in the frig have been replaced with bunny food and all the decorations have been taken down and put away for another year.

The tree is last.

The hubs is taking the lights off the pre-lit tree.

What a process!

After seven years, the lights were beginning to go out.

Better to do it now rather than next year.

Just wondering...

Zach and family left this morning and arrived safely home a short time ago.

Rachel and her family plan to leave early tomorrow morning.

Things are slowly returning to normal.

We are thankful to have enjoyed a lovely Christmas celebration on Monday.

We were able to connect with them on FaceTime.

The littles were fascinated by that.

We had the privilege of going to Jessica's class this morning...as extra grandparents.

The class was doing cookie frosting with their family members.

A couple of the children did not have someone available to attend, so we stepped in.

Decided to use some spray adhesive and sprinkle the star (minus the center) with Martha's antique silver glitter.

The greeting was printed out using the Chopin Script font.

I bought this ornament from a local craft fair this year.

It is a perfect way to use up little bits left over from a "cutter quilt".

Don't you agree?

Just make a mitten template out of a piece of paper (3 and 3/4 inches long by 3 inches wide) , cut two (single layer) from your quilt, do a blanket stitch around the perimeter of each mitten and add some lace to the wrist area. Over lap the mittens a little and sew a button in the middle to keep the two together, add a ribbon and voila!

How about a sweet mother of pearl button from your grandmother's button box?

I have lots of those!

We drilled them again, filled the first holes with wood filler and repainted.

It won't show once I get the clothes on them.

When I was a little girl, the old folks at church would tease me about my name...calling me "daybreak".

I smile at that memory now.

I usually gravitate toward solid color crochet cotton, but I recently saw this in HL and had to get it.
Something about the blues caught my eye.
The color on the label was ocean.
Appropriate name, yes?

We rescued this chair found along side the road this summer.
We brought it home, gave it a coat of paint and fixed the legs.
The seat had a rough spot that was "begging me" to paint something to cover it.
The little nest works for me.
I will probably go back and add more to it.
All better...for now.

I noticed something when I was trying to get a shot of the rock in the old desk.
Click on the photo.
On the lower right, it reads: George 8/29 '12
Not sure if that is the date the desk was built and by whom...but it does confirm that it is indeed a very OLD desk.

It started me thinking....
Do you sign your work?
I don't always do that.
Guess I should.
Someone may be interested one day.

The upper section of the desk flips up to reveal these cubbie holes.
I love that about old desks.
Makes me wonder about the things that were safely stored there under lock and key.

**The hinges were replaced by the hubs.

I really should be moving along...over and over work needs to be done.

We moved the old desk into the house a few weeks ago.
A local Amish craftsman is making a new desk top.
I am enjoying this addition to the dining room very much.
Wish we had done this sooner.

Jessica and I drove through Amish country on Saturday to buy baking supplies.
We were able to capture the charming little schoolhouse since there were no children round.

We received this in the mail last week from our son Lukas and his wife.

Psalm 127:4-5 says:

Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,

Three pink arrows + one blue arrow + one yellow arrow = one new baby due in the spring
