(vintage wristbags)

I have not been working on any new WIPs lately due to spending time at rehab with DH.
I can't post without a photo...so here are three small vintage wristbags...along with a little doily that I love. I'm wondering if anyone knows of any details regarding this type of bag - other than holding tickets to a dance.
?
Do tell.

ETA: Sunshine gave an interesting explanation in my comments regarding these bags.
Have a look-see.
Thanks so much, Sunshine!

I have never heard of them before they look delightful and terribly feminine.
You were born in the wrong era Dawn, that is one of the things I love most aboutyou!

oooo....I do love bags, especially vintage. From what I do know, these were called 'miser purses' and they originated from the medieval practice of carrying coins in the toe of a stocking(hmmmm.....) Adorned with beads, they were so popular due to the speed in which they were made.

those are not miser bags. Miser bags have two sections hold items in and they have a bead or other round object that slides to close the opening. these are used by ladies as part of their crochet and knitting kits for traveling. the ball of knitting/crochet thread is dropped in the bag and one can easily pull thread out to knit/crochet while traveling so the ball doesn't fall all over teh floor and get dirty I have a few in my collection they are common place place items in an old knitter/crocheter bag of tools.

Can find patterns for them in lots of old knitter/crochet leaflets and mags from around 1880 - 1920 have books with them in them. They are definitively not mizer bags.

I posted one I have on my blog and sort of how it would be used because I am right handed this should really hang from my right wrist. But because of that I use my right hand to take photos so it is on my left in the picture.
i did a post to help show you.

take care

I have a weakness for things like that! I'll have to post a picture of the ones I have found through the years.
They have old beauty. True beauty.
