Donna challenged us to post our senior portrait. I told her that if she did, then I would.
Oi.
This photo has been the target of many jokes by the children. First...there are those black specs. Then...they just could not believe the hands-by-the-face-pose. At the time, I was even wondering why I was posed like that.
This is just one of the senior portraits I had done. Our school had a photographer do them. One option. The girls all wore an off the shoulder black drape with a sweet little simple necklace. Someone please tell me they remember the drape shots!?! My drape shot looked fine, but I can't find it to scan. Too bad. Bet you really wanted to see that!
My mother did not like the drape thing...so she scheduled another sitting with a local photographer. That is how we got the hands by the face.
Donna, I weighed 133 and thought I was fat, too.
Crazy.

My sister Nancy had that exact haircut :o)
She graduated in 1971.
You look adorable...I actually didn't notice the hands at first...
it was the collar that grabbed my attention!
So fancy!
I just love seeing this flash from the past!
Black glasses are very in now :o)
Thank you for sharing.
Just delightful.
I like the photo - you look quite sweet.
I remember the drapes - although I am too young to have had one - I remember senior portraits on the walls of HS.Once you went back far enough - everyone looked the same - the girls all had drapes and the guys all had suits and ties.
Oh Dawn...did your mom not think the drape was modest?
You are gorgeous!
I love this picture! The lacy collar is what caught my eye at first! My daughter wears very similar glasses--that style is very "in" now!
Oh My Goodness! You look so much like Rachel!!! I knew she looked like you but especially so in that photo! I actually thought it was some kind of picture of R. before I read below it.
And the hands: I wouldn't worry about that; no doubt your photographer just wanted you to look like you were the only senior with cell phone!
You know, I think you pull it off--the hands, the glasses--actually, the glasses are in again anyway! You manage to look very pretty so that I noticed that first before the 'extras'
Dawn ~ love the grad portrait! I was a '70 grad, too. I didn't have hands up in mine...but I DID in my engagement picture 10 years later in '80. It must be the thing for portrait studios!
What a sweet picture.
I had those same glasses. They were VERY cool.
I love your Sr. portrait. Mine is in a black drape, so yes I remember them well
I also have one in my cap and gown taken months before graduation just for Sr. pictures.
(Mine was 1966)
Dawn, my mother also hated the drape. But the drape was a white feather thing. My hair was long straight and parted in the middle. I look at some of the stuff my daughter wears and I think Oh I had a dress like that. I was 1972
I was class of '72, straight hair parted on the side, pale blue drape. On pale blond me, with no make up, I looked like I was recovering from a serious illness. The slightly chubby face stayed until I hit age 21!
Too bad you didn't hang on to the specs. They really, really are IN right now. Happily I had contacts for my senior picture!
Dawn, I LOVE it! I loved looking through my parents old yearbooks. The fashions were great. I love those glasses. My dad had wore the Buddy Holly glasses until into his late 20s. Loved those, too.
I love the portrait, Dawn. Love the lace! Yep, I remember the black off the shoulder drapes, too.....my class also had a white fur drape of the same sort....that was the shot my mom chose! Yikes.....!
Great picture! Your kids, kids will be laughing at theirs in a few years! Hope all goes well the your husband's surgery.
I'm in...my senior picture and today's pictures are now posted on my blog. Thanks for the idea girls!
Oh my....I need to look mine up and post it....we could almost be twins...same hairstyle almost...ditched my glasses for contacts....I graduated in '70 too :)
Omg, I remember the black drape around the neck, I had forgotten that bit of information from the 1970's.
I graduated in 1973 and they still were doing the drapes in Dallas, Tx.
I think you looked groovy and I love your haircut.
Peace and Love, hee hee
Sorry, I went back in time for a moment. I think this Senior Portrait was a fun idea.

very cool. I'll have to dig mine out & post this weekend....ha
I remember the drape all too well. And the hair style. 1960's for me. We had two photos. The black sweater & pearls for the yearbook & the drape for trading with friends. Better than the feathers! I'll have to find my photo first before I can post it.
I like it! :)

I had the drape, too! No special photo sessions like the kids have these days. Much more affordable, I'm sure!
I thought this looked like fun, so I posted mine today. :-)
I love the lace collar and cuffs! I remember those types of glasses, too.
My senior photo - class of '65 - was also taken in a black drape and I hated it. I don't yet have the nerve to post my photo! I didn't like it then and still don't.
