When I saw Clarice's wonderful vintage sewing cabinet, I was reminded that I have never shown photos of mine. This cabinet was quite tattered and needed some TLC when it was given to me 25 years ago. It belonged to a dear lady from our church...who was a fabulous seamstress. The pockets were loaded with vintage notions and patterns from the fifties.
The outer and inner fabrics were beyond the beyond, and finally I redid the cabinet about three years ago. I have seen these cabinets at auctions in the area, most likely made in the same time frame as this one. I understand that this type of cabinet was a project originating from the Home Bureau organizations back in the day.
ETA: Soon after this refurb, I had my father-in-law make two cabinet frames using the measurements from this one...to give to our daughter, Rachel, and our daughter-in-law, Rebecca. I added the fabric. A pattern would have been helpful for that part.
...one more bunting to be listed on Etsy today...

I LOVE YOUR SEWING BOX!! My Nana had a huge bowl of buttons when I was a child and I loved playing with them, my mom has them now and I am sure some of those buttons are worth a pretty penny! You did a great job on it! I love to look at all your sewing projects, it makes me wish I had more time to sew myself!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen such a lovely cabinet!
ReplyDeleteAre you making any red, white and blue buntings??? hint hint....
I was all set to purchase the green one the other day and noticed you didn't have paypal.
